FAQ's

Here we have gathered together some common questions. If you have a
question that is not addressed here, please send an email to info@globecharterschool.org

Q: What makes a charter school different from other public schools?

A: Because we are a charter school,  GLOBE has more freedom to choose our own curriculum,  have smaller class sizes and participate in a larger number of field trips and hands-on learning projects. Our Vision and Mission can give a better idea of what GLOBE stands for.

Q: Will my child take Standardized Tests?

A: It is stated in our contract with District 11 that GLOBE Charter School will participate in district and state assessments. In addition to standardized tests, GLOBE Charter School evaluates student achievement by means of a portfolio.

The CSAP will be administered to all students in third through ninth grades and is used as a tool to help us measure the success of our academic program. GLOBE Charter School emphasizes much more than what is being tested, however, it is reasonable to expect our students to be able to read, write and do math at or above state standards.

Q: What are your class sizes?

A: 12 to 16 students per classroom.

Q: What is my child’s grade?

A: K-8 follows this grading scale.

A=Advanced                         P=Proficient
B=Basic                                 IP=In Progress
NP=No Progress

Q: What is a Village Assembly?

A: A Village Assembly is a monthly meeting in which, administration, board members, staff and parents get together to participate in a variety of activities. It may be a performance in music or foreign language, a school wide fund raiser, open house or one of our Semi Annual Reports conducted to learn more about the business aspects of the school. We do ask that parents attend these meetings. It is a great way to support your child’s education, and your ideas will help the continued improvement of our school.

Q: What does it costs are involved for the parents?

A: For the 2008/2009 school year, the student fee will be $125.

Q: What does the $125 pay for?

A: The student fee helps to pay for our building maintenance,  bus insurance and maintenance and other things that a normal public school would have provided for them by the district.

Q: What does full-day kindergarten cost?

A: As of the 2008/2009 school year, there is no cost for fill-day kindergarten. There are many benefits to having a child in kindergarten all day, the most interesting of which is that they would then be able to participate in a foreign language class as well as all of the regular activities.

Q: What are your hours?

A: All students start school at 8:00 a.m. and finish the day at 3:30 p.m.

Q: What will Happen if my Child gets into Trouble?

A: The Board of Directors believes that effective student discipline is a prerequisite for sound educational practice and academic achievement. The Board is committed to the creation of an atmosphere at GLOBE Charter School, which is safe, conductive to the learning process, and free from unnecessary disruption.

Within the context and limits established in law, GLOBE’s policies and regulations concerning discipline are intended to be responsive to the level of discipline infraction and to foster cooperation and collaboration among students, parents, teachers, and other staff members, local law enforcement agencies and the community at large in order to meet these goals.

Therefore, all GLOBE staff members will follow the Behavior Principles and Policies created for GLOBE as stated in the "GREEN Book". GLOBE encourages parents to carefully read through the Green Book with their child, and keep one on hand should a concern arise.

Q: Do the students have to wear uniforms?

A: We do not have uniforms,  we follow the D11 dress code. For more information go to: www.d11.org/boe/policies/jica.htm
